* Kiva: Loans that Change Lives: Kiva lets you connect with and make microloans to unique small businesses in the developing world. * East River Music Project: ERMP promotes the growth and development of new music, and assists in the cultural and economic revitalization of downtown Manhattan by presenting local music and attracting concertgoers of all ages to the newly-restored East River Park Amphitheater.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls: Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is a 501(c)(3) non-profit summer day camp serving girls aged 8-18 in New York City. The program offers girls the chance to learn how to play musical instruments, write songs, perform, learn about different types of music, and generally rock out. The goal is to bring girls from different backgrounds together for activities that encourage self-confidence, creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration.

* Fairness & Accuracy in Reporting: FAIR is a national media watch group/anti-censorship organization that scrutinizes media bias and advocates a greater diversity in the press. It encourages coverage of neglected news stories and minority/dissenting viewpoints.

* Southern Poverty Law Center: SPLC was founded by Morris Dees and Joseph Levin, who helped implement the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Some of their early lawsuits resulted in the desegregation of recreational facilities, the reapportionment of the Alabama legislature, and the integration of the Alabama State Troopers. The Center fights all forms of discrimination and works to protect society's most vulnerable members, handling innovative cases that few lawyers are willing to take. Over three decades, it has achieved significant legal victories, including landmark Supreme Court decisions and crushing jury verdicts against hate groups like the KKK and the neo-Nazi Aryan Nations. * RightRides: Organizes volunteers to operate a small fleet of cars donated by Zipcar to ensure that women get home safely at night in NYC. RightRides is currently available every Saturday night from Midnight - 3 AM late night Saturdays (aka early Sunday morning).

* Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic: RFB&D provides people with print disabilities with the books they need to learn and succeed. Each year, they provide more than 250,000 recorded books to individuals in kindergarten through graduate school and beyond.

* ACORN: ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is the nation's largest community organization of low- and moderate-income families, working together for social justice and stronger communities since 1970.

* The New York Public Library: The NYPL provides free and open access to information, education and learning. The Library provides books and information, as well as research and educational programs to the more than 25 million users each year.

* The Innocence Project: The Innocence Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit law clinic providing pro bono services to their clients. This Project only handles cases where postconviction DNA testing of evidence can yield conclusive proof of innocence, resulting in the release of innocent people who have been wrongly convicted.

* The Future of Music Coalition: The Future of Music Coalition is a not-for-profit collaboration between members of the music, technology, public policy and intellectual property law communities. The FMC seeks to educate the media, policymakers, and the public about music/technology issues. The FMC aims to identify and promote innovative business models that will help musicians and citizens benefit from new technologies.

* Habitat for Humanity: Habitat for Humanity has built and rehabilitated more than 150,000 houses with families in need, addressing the issues of poverty housing.

* The White House Project: The White House Project is a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization that aims to advance women’s leadership in all communities and sectors, from local leadership positions to the U.S. presidency. By filling the leadership pipeline with a richly diverse, inclusive group of women, they make American institutions, businesses, and government truly representative.

* Public Knowledge: Public Knowledge is a 501(c)3 nonprofit group of lawyers, technologists, lobbyists, academics, volunteers and activists dedicated to fortifying and defending a vibrant information commons. Their first priority is to stop any bad legislation from passing — laws that would slow technology innovation, pick market winners, shrink the public domain, or prevent fair use.
